Site Hosting

Site hosting is necessary to support any business that desires to have an on-line business presence.

Hosting is the process of providing physical space on the hard drive of a server, so a business can place files and information to conduct business, privately or publicly. Hosting is very similar to placing files and information in a folder (or directory) on your personal computer and telling everyone to look in that folder if they need to know something. Hosting is very similar to writing everything down for your household in a notebook and then making sure everyone in the household knows to check the notebook for all the issues related to the household. A household is a home and every business with hosting space has a home page. The home page is usually the first page you see when you visit an Internet site.

All Internet sites used for business or personal reasons are usually assigned a name to identify them from all other Internet sites. For example, if you maintain a notebook for your household, it may have a red cover. If you maintain a notebook specifically for cooking recipes and it has a red cover too, you are going to write a name on the red cover of each notebook, if you keep them all in the same place. You do not have to write a name on the front of each notebook because you could keep your recipe notebook in the cupboard and your household notebook on a table and there would be no confusion. At least until the day you showed up at the PTA meeting, to share some recipes, with your household notebook. Acquiring a domain name for an Internet site is much more important than writing a name on the front of the each notebook, but naming for detail and organization is essential, so there is no confusion later.

Hosting for any Internet site has two primary issues. The hosting space and the name of the Internet site. A name for an Internet business is usually the name of the business. A name can also be used for a product or service too. People use their names for their sites if they are available.

Basically an Internet site consists of hosting space and a domain name.

Hosting space and a name can be provided as package by one company or the space and the name can be acquired and maintained separately. Most people who acquire their first hosting account for an Internet site usually allow the provider company to assign their new name to a prescribed registrar the company has selected as part of their normal business.

Domain names are handled by registrars and most registrars also provide hosting space for people acquiring names from them.

As a consumer, it is important for you know how much money it will cost to acquire and maintain a domain name and hosting space. It is also just as important for a consumer to know that a hosting service provider can accommodate all the things you wish to do with your specific Internet site. This requires some understanding of exactly what you are purchasing before paying for it. What good is buying something that will not serve your needs for the long run?

I offer domain name acquisition services and provide hosting space for personal and business Internet sites.

Domain name prices start at $12.00 per year.

Hosting accounts start at $29.00 per year and include the domain name.

I also provide complete hands-off site development as well as assistance and support for people and businesses who wish to design and implement their Internet site.

If you are considering using a reliable third party to help you with your Internet site, please call 216-233-4443 and leave brief message concerning your business with a best time for me to return a call to you, to discuss your situation.

If you the take charge type and really do not need someone to help you, but do need to acquire a domain name and find a reliable hosting provider, please consider using HostGator.

I recommend HostGator because I use them and I have the least amount of problems with their services. Support from them is also excellent. Up-time on my sites has been nothing less than fantastic. My customer’s too have not reported one site outage incident. Believe me, the first time you get a call on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday from an upset customer and have to change your plans to research and correct their problem, but you are hostage to your current providers work schedule and their error, you will start looking elsewhere for better services and products for your customer’s.

Some tips about using Hostgator sites and their affiliate program.

If you intend to use your site for emailing purposes, all of your email list customer’s must be double opt-in, no exceptions.

When referring anyone to your Hostgator affiliate link for buying something from you through them, make sure to always provide your customer the exact link they give you. Do not use any cloaked links or links coming from sites coded with the a cloaked link or a link in an iframe, these are all invalid and you will not be paid. Be sure to have your referral always contact you and never call Hostgator directly for their order because if they sell the order to them over the phone, you will not be paid a commission. The only correct way to refer hosting is by using the specific affiliate link they sent you. They review how you referred the customer to them, to compare that referral link to the invalid ways not to refer to them, which may invalidate your commission for the sale, at their discretion.

I know this because I have already lost commissions I thought I was going to earn, when I referred some close associates to what I believed was a valid way to promote and is not. Hostgator is great for hosting and support and they do explain almost all the many ways they will not pay you for affiliate sales, so it best to just use the one way they will pay you.
